Cooper is a Provisional Psychologist in the final stages of completing his Master of Clinical Psychology at Federation University. He is passionate about supporting individuals to better understand themselves, navigate life’s challenges and work towards meaningful, sustainable change. Cooper places a strong emphasis on building trusting, collaborative therapeutic relationships and creating a safe, respectful and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves and exploring their concerns.
As a Provisional Psychologist, Cooper practises under the supervision of a senior psychologist within the clinic. This means that clients working with Cooper are supported by the knowledge and experience of two psychology professionals, providing an additional level of clinical oversight and collaborative care. Cooper regularly engages in supervision to reflect on his practice, develop his clinical skills and ensure that the support he provides is thoughtful, evidence-based and tailored to each client’s individual needs.
Cooper takes a warm, person-centred and evidence-based approach to psychological practice. He draws on a range of third-wave cognitive behavioural therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Through these approaches, Cooper works collaboratively with clients to develop a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to their current difficulties, while identifying patterns of thinking, emotions and behaviours that may be maintaining these challenges. He supports clients to develop practical strategies and skills that can be applied in everyday life, with a focus on building greater self-awareness, resilience and confidence.
Cooper has experience working with a broad range of presenting concerns, including anxiety and depression, personality-related difficulties, general life stressors, adjustment to change and neurodivergence. He has experience supporting clients across the lifespan, from children aged six years through to older adults. Cooper recognises that every individual brings their own unique experiences, strengths and circumstances to therapy and therefore tailors his approach to meet the needs, goals and preferences of each client.
Cooper is committed to creating a therapeutic space where clients feel heard, understood and respected. He believes that meaningful psychological work is built on genuine connection and collaboration, and he works alongside clients to identify goals that are personally meaningful and achievable.
Outside of the clinic, Cooper enjoys keeping active, spending time outdoors and connecting with friends and family. You’ll often find him running around his local part, hiking, playing football or enjoying time at the beach with friends. He also enjoys cooking and making the most of Melbourne’s outdoors and community.
