What Are Group Therapy Services?
Group therapy services provided at Complete Therapy Group offers opportunities for children, adolescents, and adults to explore and learn social and emotional concepts in a supportive, structured group setting. Rather than focusing on changing who someone is, group therapy supports individuals to better understand themselves, others, and the social world around them while connecting with peers in meaningful ways. Groups are fun, engaging and purposeful.
Groups are thoughtfully designed based on age, developmental stage, personal interests nd shared goals. Through collaborative activities, guided discussions, role-play, and experiential learning, individuals are supported to build awareness, confidence, and connection.
Our clinic provides evidence-based group therapy services only. All group sessions are facilitated by senior psychologists with additional interests and specialised training in group-based interventions, social development, and neurodiversity, ensuring that each group is grounded in current research, clinical best practice, and ethical care.
Group therapy can support participants to:
- Explore social interaction in a safe and affirming environment
- Learn alongside peers with shared experiences
- Build confidence, self-awareness, and emotional understanding
- Develop communication and problem-solving strategies that align with their values and identity
What Are Social Groups That Teach Social Concepts?
Social groups that teach social concepts support children, adolescents, and adults to understand how social interactions work, without expecting conformity to a single “right” way of communicating or connecting. We recognise and respect that people experience and engage with the social world in diverse ways.
Social concepts may include understanding perspectives, navigating relationship dynamics, recognising emotions (in oneself and in others), setting boundaries, managing conflict, problem solving and communicating needs in ways that feel authentic yet is also effective at the same time.
These groups are developed and delivered using evidence-based frameworks, making them particularly supportive for individuals who:
- Experience social interaction differently
- Feel unsure, overwhelmed, or anxious in social settings
- Benefit from explicit, structured, and respectful teaching of social concepts
- Identify as neurodivergent, including autistic individuals and those with ADHD
Concepts are introduced clearly and explored through discussion, reflection, and supported practice, with a focus on real-world relevance and that can be generalised when needed.
Why Are Social Groups an Important Intervention Across the Lifespan?
Promotes Understanding Without Masking
Social groups focus on understanding social concepts rather than encouraging people to mask or suppress their natural ways of being. Evidence-based approaches support sustainable strategies that respect individual identity.
Supports Confidence and Self-Acceptance
Participating in an affirming group where differences are valued can foster confidence, self-compassion, and a stronger sense of identity.
Enhances Emotional Awareness and Regulation
Through shared experiences and research-informed guidance, individuals develop greater insight into emotions, stress responses, ways to problem solve and coping strategies.
Encourages Meaningful and Respectful Relationships
Learning about boundaries, communication, and perspective-taking supports the development of relationships that feel safe, mutual, and fulfilling.
Builds Skills That Support Long-Term Wellbeing
Understanding social concepts supports success across education, work, relationships, and community participation. Evidence-based, neuroaffirming group intervention helps individuals build skills while remaining true to themselves.
